9 For these are rebellious people, deceitful children,
children unwilling to listen to the Lord’s instruction.
10 They say to the seers,
“See no more visions!”
and to the prophets,
“Give us no more visions of what is right!
Tell us pleasant things,
11 Leave this way,
get off this path,
and stop confronting us
with the Holy One of Israel!”
The people of Israel rebelled against God. Their rebellion led them down a dangerous path. They were unable to see the truth, then they were unable to hear the truth, and then they actively sought out lies. In the end, they demanded that the prophets leave them alone to their own desires and wishes. We might think that a little disobedience to God is no big deal at all. But, it leads to deeper and deeper rebellion until we find ourselves unable to recognize truth.
Lord, help us to see the areas in our lives that are in rebellion against you. May we repent of our rebellion and seek to be holy.
Questions for Reflection:
- What rebellious behavior might be present in your life?
- What truths might you be avoiding because of the sin in your life?
- Are you seeking to be holy?
